Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Submission & Reporting
The SBTi is a global body, a collaboration between CDP, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the United Nations Global Compact, providing the guidance and framework for organisations to set emissions reduction targets in line with the latest climate science.
Science-based targets (SBTs) are Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets that are aligned with the levels of decarbonisation required under the Paris Agreement, limiting global warming to well-below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursue efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C.

Commit and Develop
The initial step to align your Net Zero strategy with the SBTi is to submit your organisations letter of commitment, establishing your intent to set an SBT.
- Scope 1 and 2 targets aligned to 1.5°C
- Scope 3 target aligned with 1.5°C, or well below 2.0°C
- All near-term targets must be 5-10 years, and should be updated every five years and progress reported annually
Once your organisation has signed the commitment letter, we can support you through the maximum period of 24 months to:
- Develop a science-based emissions reduction target aligned with the SBTi criteria (above)
- Submit your targets for validation
- Publish your approved targets on the SBTi website
Submit and Communicate
Our teams will support you with:
- Tailored guidance through the targets submission form and booking the SBTi validation service
- Confirmation that submissions are in line with SBTi requirements
- Reviewing and incorporating detailed feedback and support from SBTis technical experts into your Net Zero strategy
Once approved by the SBTi, your SBTs can be
Disclosure and Reporting
Your organisation must report your GHG emissions and provide progress updates against your SBTs on an annual basis. This can be achieved via several disclosure frameworks such as CDP and TCFD.
Whilst the choice of framework has been voluntary, this is becoming increasingly regimented, the UK Government being one body to make TCFD-aligned disclosures mandatory since 2021 for the largest companies.
